Spine fractures are a common problem, especially in the elderly secondary to osteoporosis. Major spine fractures after significant fall or road traffic accident may need spinal reconstruction. Those in the elderly due to osteoporosis that fail conservative care may be amenable to two minimally invasive procedures namely vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. The idea behind the procedure is pain relief and early mobilization.
